Sudbury letter: Support nuclear disarmament

Last month, the world received disturbing news on nuclear proliferation.   Britain announced a plan to increase its nuclear stockpiles by more than 40 per cent, increasing its previous nuclear arsenal cap from 180 warheads to 260. This increase is in direct opposition to the responsibilities of a nuclear-armed signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) that promised to get rid of nuclear weapons in “good faith”. Fifty years later, the five nuclear-armed countries (US, Britain, France, China and Russia) have not done so. Israel, North Korea, India, and Pakistan haven’t signed the NPT.
