Crisis negotiator used to help make arrest in domestic assault

On August 14,  police  executed an arrest and a search warrant at a residence in Latchford and arrested a suspect.

Police seized prohibited weapons, as well as other weapons in the residence.

As a result of police investigation, a 40-year-old Latchford resident, has been charged with the following:

  •  Assault – Spousal, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Assault, contrary to section 266 of the CC;
  • Mischief – Domestic, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC;
  • Mischief Under $5000, contrary to section 430(4) of the CC; and
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon (two counts), contrary to section 91(2) of the CC.

The Temiskaming Detachment of the OPP, Temiskaming Crime Unit, Kirkland Lake Crime Unit, North East Region (NER) Community Street Crime Unit, NER Forensic Identification Services Unit, Central and West Region Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), NER Emergency Response Team (ERT), NER Canine Unit (K9), NER Critical Incident Command, and a Crisis Negotiator were all brought in for the arrest.

The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court on August 16, 2019, in the City of Temiskaming Shores.

The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim.
