Banning snowmachines
A complaint from Albert Charron at Town Council stated he couldn’t hear his TV because of the noise snowmobiles created while racing on Sixth Street and Tenth Avenue.
The noice continued into 1 and 2 in the morning. The complainant asked that machines be banned after 10 pm.
“I think they should be banned from town altogether,” remarked Councillor Marc David.
Mayor Maurice Hotte said he had also received numerous calls an letters complaining about the danger and noise of snowmobiles.
Polling the councillors after the meeting pointed to the option that the majority feel that banning the machines from town is the only answer.
Department of Highways of Ontario
The opening of the $1 million District Repair Garage attracted a large number of government officials and local dignitaries.
The building, which was completed in October 1970 is the most modern in both equipment and design of the 17 in Ontario. It has 30,000 square-feet of working space.
“Highway mileage has doubled in the North since 1943. There are more than 600 miles of highway under the jurisdiction of the DHO in Cochrane District.” said George E. Gomme, Minister of Highways. “It is not unlikely that the Northern Ontario highway network will some day reach and perhaps even encompass the Hudson’s Bay region. One thing we don’t have to use a crystal ball for is the growth of tourism, because this means big business in the Cochrane area.”
